Steam to Mandalay

My first visit to Myanmar (Burma) was in 2003. Since then I have returned three times as it has slowly lost its isolation and its despotic military rulers. It is a wonderful country and I support several British charities there.

The talk covers a 1,200 mile tour by vintage steam train. Leaving Yangon(Rangoon) we head south to Moulmein and its Kipling Pagoda, before journeying north to Mandalay, to a remote mining region well off the tourist trail, and then down the Irrawaddy River to the amazing temple complex at Bagan. Finally a look at recent changes and what the future holds for Myanmar and its people.
